Arts, Permaculture, and Environmental Sustainability weave together the culture of the Aldinga Arts Eco-Village: Our collective vision is for a true community of all age groups – characterised by ‘caring for the earth; caring for people; living creatively – together’.
In 2021 we have 310 residents.
78% of our 181 lots are owner-occupied, 13% are rented, with the remainder either vacant or temporarily unoccupied.
We have more children than we do residents aged 70+.
Our largest demographic is those aged 45-69 years.
We have an active and evolving environment supported by a strong network of community volunteers: Flourishing arts, orchards, and an organic farm, natural vegetation and wildlife.
People help to make the village sustainable – through arts and cultural activities, community building, developing and maintaining our landscape and the Village service infrastructure.
We meet as a whole group at least once per year to determine Village plans and expenditures. Each lot has one vote.
Between general meetings, a Management Committee provides direction for day-to-day operations, maintenance and administration. Groups of residents meet to take on a wide range of arts, communications, or environment projects.
Maintenance of the Village involves both monetary and volunteering support from residents. Levies are raised from members to provide services but we also rely on community involvement to develop, maintain and manage our social and physical infrastructure.
Volunteering is a fun way to get to know each other. Volunteering on a regular ongoing basis makes the unique Village lifestyle sustainable and manageable.
Natural Earth Burial at AAEV
In 2017, we established a Natural Earth Burial Ground in a quiet corner of the village, providing a sustainable burial option for residents if they choose. People who have lived in the Ecovillage are eligible to be buried here. If you want to find out more information, or if you are the next of kin for someone who expressed interest in being buried at AAEV NEB, please contact the Village Secretary
